Freeflow Tolling ‘Gone Live for Queensland Motorways

Reduced congestion, faster trips, safer journeys and improved traffic flow are just some of the benefits Queensland motorists will experience following the ‘go-live of the Thales-built Freeflow Tolling (FFT) system deployed across Brisbanes Logan Motorway, Gateway Extension and Gateway Bridge on Wednesday 22nd July.

Thales is the prime contractor for the design and implementation of the seamless, cashless and fully electronic FFT roadside system for Queensland Motorways Limited (QML).
The Thales single gantry FFT system is unique in the marketplace and utilises state-of-the-art technology and was chosen by QML because of its high accuracy, availability, reliability and flexibility to support future tolling initiatives. The FFT solution also reduces the costs associated with manual transaction review, maintenance, civil design and construction works.
In partnership with our customer, Queensland Motorways Ltd, the team of the Thales Transportation Systems SBL has also developed and deployed a full test gantry and FFT testing system at Lakeside Raceway for initial deployment and to support future development.

Thales has invested in local skills and infrastructure to deploy and support the FFT solution. A significant component of the software configuration and development has been performed by Thales in Australia, positioning the company as a worldwide centre of excellence with advanced local systems integration capability in intelligent transport systems.
