The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) has awarded Veidekke Entreprenør the contract to build the new connection on the E 39 road between Svegatjørn in Os municipality and Fanavegen in Bergen municipality. The value of the contract is close to NOK 2.3 billion excluding VAT.

The section Veidekke will build is approx. 12.7 kilometres in length. The contract entails building two two-bore tunnels (the Skogafjell tunnel which is 1.5 kilometres in length and the Lyshorn tunnel of 9.2 kilometres in length) and two kilometres of four lane open air road. The contract also includes building two intersections with flyovers, one 1.7 kilometre water tunnel, bridges, portals and supporting walls and an extensive water and drainage facility.

“We are very pleased with the confidence the NPRA has shown in us, and that we won the competition for this contract. Together we will implement this project in the best possible manner, with emphasis on HSE, the external environment and quality,” says project manager Trygve Slåke of Veidekke.

Veidekke received the award letter for the contract from the NPRA on 19 June. The appeal deadline for awarding the contract has now expired with no appeals being lodged. Due to the holidays, the contract will not be signed until week 34.

The works will commence in October 2015 and completion is planned for August 2020. The contract is included in Veidekke’s order backlog for Q2.
