Georgia Celebrates the Interstate System 1956-2006

Atlanta, United States of America – In 2006, the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Dwight D. Eisenhower System of Interstate and Defense Highways. It has been called the greatest engineering feat in modern times, and the best investment our nation ever made. Many observers have ranked the Interstates’ effect on Americans’ lives as equal to that of the automobile.

In 2006, the Georgia Department of Transportation will lead the state’s celebration with a series of special events. The Department will use teh celebration website http://www.dot.state.ga.us/50th/index.shtml to post information about the history of our interstates, information about our celebration events and offer a sneak peek at what the future of the Interstates might hold.
