Agency extends real-time traffic information service

Real-time traffic information is now available via PC desktops, radio and RSS.
United Kingdom – The Highways Agency’s useful real-time traffic information service has now been extended to reach users’ PC desktops.

In addition to being able to access information from the Agency’s website, drivers can now have the most relevant data sent straight to their screens via an internet connection.

By downloading and installing a small file to their hard-drives, users will see a car icon in the bottom corner of the screen, which they can click on to scroll through lists of incidents as they occur.

This information is also available via a dedicated radio service and an RSS feed.

Highways Agency Radio broadcasts five-minute snippets of traffic information that can be sent directly to a compatible mobile phone or PDA to listen to before setting off on journeys.

Motorists are also able to listen to these broadcasts via the Agency’s website.

With the RSS traffic feed, users with news readers can receive the latest motorway and trunk road news as it happens.

All of these services will enable drivers to stay up-to-date with all the latest traffic news as and when they need it and minimise delays and disruptions to journeys.

On www.highways.gov.uk you can download PC desktop application, Access radio service for handheld devices and Access RSS traffic feedtracktrack.
