Parapet replacement on Ringwood Flyover A31 UK

United Kingdom – Work to replace parapets on the A31 Ringwood Flyover will begin on May 2nd 2006 and be completed by July 31st 2006.

The existing one metre high parapets will be replaced by new parapets in line with current standards, which will improve safety on the flyover.

Work will take place Monday to Friday from 07:00 BST to 18:00 BST. The Ringwood flyover will be open as normal, but with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction for the safety of drivers and the workforce.

Nighttime single lane closures on the A31 may also take place for delivery of materials and for some work on the parapet replacement. There are no planned total closures of the A31 at Ringwood.

Dorset County Council is also planning to be working from early July 2006 to replace the Avon Causeway bridge near to the B3347.

Both the Highways Agency and Dorset County Council have discussed the potential impact of both schemes and are satisfied that there will be no adverse effect on traffic using the A31.

Highways Agency project sponsor, Clive Cooper, said: "We are replacing the existing parapets with ones in line with current safety standards. This will improve the safety for users of the A31. During the work we do not expect any serious delays for drivers."
