Huge support for ITS World Congress

Industry Comes out in Full Support of ITS World Congress and Exhibition Delivering Transport Excellence
ExCeL, London, 8-12 October 2006

London, United Kingdom – Huge support for ITS World Congress and Exhibition, hosted for the first time in the UK in London for 2006, has already been shown. 90% of the indoor exhibition space is sold out with over 150 exhibitors confirmed, including Department for Transport, Transport for London, Honda, Navteq, Serco, Siemens, and the European Commission to name a few. The World Congress is widely acknowledged as the most important global event for promoting ITS-related technologies and services.

Two showcase demonstration areas are proving popular with organisations using the outdoor area located alongside the exhibition hall for static and low speed demonstrations, and opting for the purpose built test track demonstration space at Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre for high-speed demonstrations (located just over an hour away via shuttle bus). There will be technical visits available to ten venues during the Congress week to demonstrate ITS applications across a wide range of industries. Highlights will include the National Traffic Control Centre, London Underground Network Control Centre and Renault F1 Site Tour.

Key sponsorship has been confirmed from ten top name companies in the industry so far. Alcatel, Atkins, International Business Wales, Ford (Jaguar & Volvo) and LogicaCMG are Gold sponsors; EC Harris, Hyder Consulting and Siemens will be Silver sponsors; plus JM Communications & Redspeed as Bronze sponsors.

William Butler, Event Director says: “It is the first time the UK has hosted the ITS World Congress & Exhibition and we are delighted not just with the UK’s own involvement but with the massive support from the global ITS community including ITS China, ITS Japan, ITS America, ITS Australia, ITS Canada, ITS Netherlands and ITS France. With over 150 companies involved already the sheer scale of this event will capture the imagination of everyone involved with intelligent transport systems and services both from the UK and Europe and across the World.

The ITS World Congress is organised in Europe by ITS Congress Association on behalf of ERTICO, in co-operation with four key UK partners – the Department for Transport, Department of Trade and Industry, Transport for London and ITS United Kingdom. Such events have in the past received the highest level of support throughout the ITS world from government, industry and other organisations and this year’s World Congress is no exception, with a Ministerial level Opening Plenary on Monday 9 October 2006.

The Preliminary Programme is due for release later in June 2006. The Congress content ranges from the strategic to the technical, and from improving the operational use of systems and services on the one hand to research and planning to support new applications on the other. Presentations, exhibition stands and both formal and informal discussion sessions will cover all ITS applications.

The ITS World Congresses have been held annually since 1994 with the host country rotating tri-annually between Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific. They are the only deliberately international meetings addressing policy and deployment experience for Intelligent Transport Systems. Over four days the Congresses typically bring together around 5000 suppliers, clients, users, researchers and academics from across the world to share emerging knowledge and best practice. The Europe hosted Congresses are designed to focus on the particular technical, cultural, financial and organisational issues in Europe and are organised at a European level with the Host country taking responsibility for certain specific events.

The Congresses are organised through a committee structure with ERTICO, ITS America and ITS Japan representing the over-arching ‘owners’ of the Congress Brand. The London Congress is being organised on behalf of ERTICO by ITS Congress Association and their logistics agent Brintex, part of Hemming Group. There is a UK Steering Group responsible for certain host aspects and comprising the Department for Transport (chair), Department of Trade and Industry, Transport for London and ITS (UK).
