Levallois-Perret, France – The first train of Shanghai Line 1 Extension 2 project was put into commercial service end of January 2007. This metro is the first 8 car train-set configuration delivered to Shanghai market. The capacity of this train is increased by 30 % compared to the existing trains.

Shanghai Line 1 is one of the busiest line of Shanghai metro network with more than 700,000 passengers everyday. Shanghai Line 1 extension 2 project is performed by a consortium made of ALSTOM Transport SA, SATCO, SATEE, and Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Works. The total 16 Trains of this project will be delivered by the end of 2007.

ALSTOM is the technical leader of this consortium providing the design of the train, as well as the traction kits and the Train Information & Monitoring System. The following ALSTOM units are involved in this project: Charleroi, Le Creusot, Shanghai, Tarbes, Valenciennes & Villeurbanne.
