Energy efficient traindriving 2nd demonstration tour

Improve your know-how on energy efficient driving and join the second TRAINER demonstration tour from 12 – 14 March 2008. This demonstration tour will particularly demonstrate and discuss the good practices of freight transport on the railways. The tour will call at sites in Slovenia and Slovakia and is being organised in collaboration with the Slovenian Railways (SZ) and the Slovakian railways (ZSSK Cargo). The SBB (Switzerland) and ÖBB (AUSTRIA) will also present their experience on Energy Efficient Driving (EED).

The demonstration tour is intended for managers and policymakers of railway companies (freight services) whose duties cover subjects such as energy saving, sustainability, training and general policy. The demonstration tour will also be useful for policymakers in the public sector with responsibility for the railways. The tour offers participants a varied and informative programme with a heavy emphasis on practical issues in the field of Energy Efficient Driving. The participants will have plenty of time to get to know one another and to have discussions during the informal sessions and the dinners.

The tour starts on 12 March 2008 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and concludes on 14 March 2008 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The informal kick-off will be held on the evening of 11 March 2008 with a joint dinner. For your participation in the demonstation tour itself, including most meals and beverages as well as the transportation during the tour, no fee is required. The European Union is subsidising the demonstration tour. The costs for hotels and the dinner on Wednesday 13 March however have to be covered by the participants themselves. Also the hotel reservations have to be taken care of by the participants themselves. We will soon provide you more details about hotel possibilities. You can also choose to attend part of the programme. Please be aware that the number of participants is limited so register quickly.

The TRAINER programme is part of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme. The aim of TRAINER is to improve energy efficiency in rail transport. This by developing and providing training programmes for drivers, station staff and managers of rail companies. Furthemore the use of Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) and Energy Management Systems will be promoted as instruments for reducing energy use. The countries participating in TRAINER are the Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia and Greece. TRAINER is coordinated by SenterNovem, the Netherlands Agency for Sustainability and Innovation. TRAINER collaborates intensively with the international Rail Energy project.
