Safety seminars moving around Europe

First road safety engineering roadshow to be held in Skopje, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Brussels, Belgium – In collaboration with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement (TAIEX Unit), the International Road Federation (IRF) has been instrumental in setting up a cycle of road safety engineering training Workshops in Central and Eastern European Countries for the benefit of road safety professionals from the public and private sector.

During 2007 six free workshops will be held in various locations across Europe (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Turkey and Lithuania) to offer selected stakeholders the possibility to acquire valuable information on road safety engineering and a platform where to share best practices.

IRF is happy to announce that the first such Workshop will take place in Skopje on 30-31 January 2007 with a regional scope to include the West Balkan region. The event is expected to bring together a significant number of high-level participants both from the public and the private sector of Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC’s) as well as many keynote speakers from across Europe.

The seminar, which will last for two days, will include specific sessions on safe road management policies, legal aspects (the Tunnel Directive and the Safe Road Infrastructure Management Directive), road equipment standards and deployment strategies, European safety research projects, financing road safety as well as an “on site” visit to an ongoing road engineering project making it a “must attend” occasion for all infrastructure safety specialists from the region.

IRF is a non-profit association coordinating the views of the road sector and acts as a platform for dialogue and research on mobility issues. IRF actively supports national and international efforts to drastically decrease road fatalities by giving the road sector a consistent and united voice on road safety. Interested members with expertise in Road Safety Engineering who wish to find out how they can participate in these events are requested to contact the IRF Secretariat in Brussels on www.irfnet.eu
