57th UITP World Congress 20 – 24 May 2007 Helsinki

Welcome to Finland

Brussels, Belgium – Less than four months before the beginning of the 57th UITP World Congress and Exhibition, the latest issue of Public Transport International, first media partner of the Congress and Exhibition, is fully dedicated to the event to be held in Helsinki, Finland from 20 to 24 May 2007.

Through this special edition of PTI titled “Welcome to Finland” you will discover why and how the city of Helsinki can gather 81% of satisfaction rate among its citizens.

The Helsinki region, including the municipalities of Helsinki (560 000 inhabitants), Espoo (228 000 inhabitants) Vantaa (184 000 inhabitants) and Kauniainen (8 600 inhabitants), represents about 75 % of all urban public transport in Finland. In 2005, the system carried some 304 million passengers, representing 310 trips per year and inhabitant.

PTI magazine includes articles on Tendering and contracts in the Helsinki region, the BEST benchmark of European cities, the smart bus terminal of Kamppi, the success story of the Helsinki regional travel card; the use of mobile internet in public transport, the mobile guide for Kamo residents and the use of clean fuels.
