Westinghouse wins award for Evergreen 2 Work

Chippenham, United Kingdom – Westinghouse Rail Systems, part of Invensys PLC, received a prestigious award at Carillion Rail’s annual Key Supplier Conference which was held in Chester in november 2006. The company won the ‘Best Performing Rail Sub-Contractor of the Year’ for its work on Chiltern Railway’s Evergreen 2 project.

Westinghouse was nominated for the award by Carillion’s Project Delivery Manager for Evergreen, David Corkett. In his nomination, he said: “The Westinghouse project delivery team worked closely with us throughout the challenging programme and were always willing to collaborate to ensure we were in the best possible position to deliver to our own client.

“Their flexibility and openness allowed us to incorporate some significant scope changes whilst still delivering every major milestone on time. They truly integrated into our team and aligned themselves with all of the Carillion Values.”

The programme of work undertaken by Westinghouse and Carillion involved the development and implementation of new signalling infrastructure and train protection systems, all of which were introduced through a series of 12 commissionings, over a 19 month period.

David Attmere, WRSL’s senior project manager, accepted the award from Carillion Managing Director Richard Howson. He said: “We are absolutely delighted that our work on Evergreen has been recognised in this way. It’s a great reflection on the team ethic that was created throughout the programme with Carillion, resulting in an environment where the main contractor and sub contractor worked together to deliver a first class project.”
