HOCHTIEF wins 290 mln contracts in Austria

Essen, Germany – Two tunneling projects in Vienna and the lower valley of the River Inn / Company is leader of two joint ventures
HOCHTIEF Construction AG is continuing to strengthen its market position in the field of transport projects in Austria. The company will be the leader of two joint ventures building two tunnel sections with a total volume of EUR 290 million. In each case, HOCHTIEF Construction has a one-third share. The clients are ÖBB-Infrastruktur Bau AG and Brenner Eisenbahn GmbH.

One project involves a three-kilometer twin-track tunnel in the Vienna districts of Hitzing and Meidling. The Lainzer Tunnel, as it is called, forms part of the new Vienna Meidling – St. Pölten rail route. The carcass and is due to be handed over in mid-2010, the complete project in 2013.

The other railroad tunnel project, the twin-track Jenbach Tunnel, is part of the Brenner feeder traffic branch line in the lower valley of the River Inn. Four kilometers in length, it requires an especially large TBM with a diameter of 13 meters. During the four-year construction period, the joint venture will undercross several railroad sections. It will also execute numerous additional structures, such as ramps and bridges, and in some places will have to re-route the rail line. Completion is scheduled for 2010.

The two recently concluded contracts represent a continuation of the company‘s successful infrastructure activities in Austria. At present, as well as working on five major projects for the Austrian rail company Österreichische Bundesbahn, HOCHTIEF Construction is also executing a major contract as part of the expansion measures at Vienna Airport.
