SNCF orders 16 regional express trainsets from Alstom

Saint Ouen Cedex, France – SNCF has ordered 16 new generation double-deck regional trainsets, Coradia Duplex, from Alstom. Destined to operate in the region of Haute-Normandie (France), the trains will consist of five cars each, making a total of eighty cars. The total value of the contract is 140 million euros, of which 108 million go to Alstom (Bombardier will participate in the manufacture of 32 of the cars).

This order forms part of a multi-year investment programme launched in September 2000 and financed by France’s regions, to renew their fleet of TER express trains and to meet growing demand for regional transport. In total, Alstom has received orders for 747 coaches from SNCF and the various regions of France since the beginning of the programme. The 16 new trainsets will be delivered by 2010.

Alstom’s sites at Valenciennes, Tarbes, Villeurbanne, Le Creusot and Ornans in France, in addition to its site at Charleroi in Belgium, will all contribute to the fulfilment of the contract.
