Bombardier wins contract from First Scotrail

Montréal, Canada – Bombardier Transportation has been awarded a £30.6 Million ($58 million US) contract by First ScotRail in the U.K. for fleet support of their Class 170 Bombardier built Turbostar trains. This project will bring increased reliability to the train operator’s diesel Turbostar fleet using advanced monitoring and diagnostic techniques.

Under the fleet support agreement, Bombardier will provide, until 2011, technical support, remote monitoring and diagnostic systems and spare parts and maintenance materials for the 59 Turbostar trains, that operate services in Scotland.

An additional contract, valued at £1.7 million ($3 million US), has also been agreed for the delivery and installation of Passenger Information Systems (PIS) on First ScotRail’s Class 158 diesel trains, as well as the upgrade of the existing PIS equipment on the earlier Class 170 trains. This work will be carried out at Haymarket depot in the U.K.

Rik Dobbelaere, President, Services, Bombardier said: “These contracts underpin Bombardier’s commitment to continuously improve the reliability and performance of First ScotRail operations through the introduction of innovative diagnostic monitoring techniques.”

Commenting on the announcement, Colin Walton, Chief Country Representative, U.K. added: “We are pleased to be able to continue to build upon our successful partnership with First ScotRail, supporting them in the provision of an extremely popular, world-class transport system.”

Bombardier Transportation provides a global support network for its products, with employees working closely in conjunction with its customers in 70 locations world-wide. The complete service portfolio includes full train and fleet maintenance, materials and logistics programs, plus the refurbishment, re-engineering and overhaul of systems, vehicles and components.
