Atkins scoops Engineering Consultant of the Year

Epsom, Surrey – United Kingdom – Atkins, the multinational design and engineering consultancy, took one of the top gongs last night at the prestigious Building Awards when it was named Engineering Consultant of the Year.

The company’s commitment to industry leadership and partnering with clients made it stand out before the judges – particularly on the key issues of sustainability, health & safety and skills.

Atkins was recognised for its leading role in some of the world’s most prestigious and significant projects, including Crossrail, the Dubai Metro and Gautrain, in South Africa. Many of the company’s projects are also contributing to changing design in a carbon critical world. The DIFC Lighthouse, for instance, will take sustainable tower design in the Middle East to new levels, reducing energy consumption by 65% and water consumption by 40%.

The award was picked up by executive director Ivor Catto. The event, hosted by leading trade magazine Building, was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane and was attended by around 1,700 of the industry’s leading lights.

Atkins beat off strong competition from a shortlist which included Buro Happold, Faber Maunsell, Ramboll Whitbybird, White Young Green and WSP Group.

Keith Clarke, chief executive, said: “This award is a ringing endorsement of the great work we have done throughout the past 12 months. Each of our 18,000 people has been a part of this success and we can all feel proud of it.”
