Christopher Aadnesen has more than three decades of railroad experience

Dallas, United States of America – HNTB Corporation announces Christopher Aadnesen, a railway industry expert, has joined the firm as a vice president and director of the Central Division Freight Rail practice.

In his new role, Aadnesen will coordinate railroad segment marketing, client service and project delivery efforts across the firm’s Central Division. He has been involved in the railway industry for 33 years and has managed many different strategic areas, including safety, operating practices, transportation, rolling stock, track and structures, operations control, budgeting and real estate. He also has acted as a trade union liaison representing operations and labor union negotiations.

“Chris is a perfect fit for this position,” said Keith Rosbury, central division president of HNTB Corporation. “His expertise in providing strategic management counsel – particularly regarding safety, operating practices, operations control and budgeting – is crucial to HNTB’s efforts to be proactive on behalf of our rail clients.”

Aadnesen recently completed an assignment as chairman of the management board and managing director of Estonian Railways Ltd., headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia. Additionally, since 1996 Aadnesen has been president of his logistics and railway planning and consulting bureau, Capitol City Management Associates, in Austin, Texas.

HNTB has participated in the evaluation and rehabilitation of short lines, regional railroads and Class I railroads throughout the world. As leaders in rail transportation engineering and design, HNTB provides a full range of planning, design and construction management services. HNTB specializes in track rehabilitation and design, special trackwork design, bridge design, civil engineering and other railroad design related disciplines. The firm has completed a wide range of projects for state and federal agencies and private clients throughout the United States, South America, Canada, Europe and Asia.

As a rail advisor for HNTB in 2003 and 2004, Aadnesen participated in the early management of the Trans-Texas Corridor project. From 1996 to the end of 2000, he was executive vice president and chief operations officer of Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana (TFM), the first privatized Mexican railroad, and the largest based on annual freight volume. At the same time, Aadnesen held the position of chief operating officer of the Texas Mexican Railway Company, was a member of the Association of American Railroads’ Operations and Safety Committee, and served on the board of directors of the Port Terminal Railroad Association in Houston. Aadnesen also spent 23 years with Union Pacific Railroad Company.

Aadnesen has attended Brown University and has both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Utah. He also has completed post-graduate programs at the University of Pittsburgh and Harvard University.

He is past chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission for the city of Georgetown, Texas, a contributing columnist to the Williamson County Sun newspaper, lead director for the board of directors of Georgetown Rail Equipment Company, vice president of the American Chamber of Commerce – Estonia, and has been a member of the board of the Community of European Railways and Infrastructure Companies headquartered in Brussels.

He and his wife, Betty, have five children and reside in Georgetown, Texas.
