The EBRD is the major investor in Bulgaria

Sofia, Bulgaria – Minister of Finance Plamen Oresharski attended the EBRD 15th Annual Meeting. The Bulgarian Minister praised the work of the Bank in the country, highlighting the importance of its presence here. In 2005, the EBRD remained the major investor in Bulgaria, said Plamen Oresharski, and cited the EUR 285 mln record volume of annual business and the total funds of EUR 1.28 bln.

The Minister of Finance elaborated on the significance of the EBRD’s projects in energy, relating to the production, delivery and distribution of energy and energy efficiency.

Minister Oresharski said that the EBRD’s experience is rather valuable in the preparation of the institutional and business capacity, enabling the efficient absorption of EU funds through enhancing the competitiveness of local enterprises prior to the country’s accession to the EU.

At the Annual Meeting, the Bulgarian delegation acquainted investors with the opportunities the country offers. The stable macroeconomic framework, the laws and regulations aligned with the acquis, the competitiveness of the labour market and the institutional assistance were among the major issues in the presentation on Bulgaria.
