Large South-Korean order in solar energy market

Eindhoven, The Netherlands – OTB Solar, a leading Dutch manufacturer of solar cell equipment, announces the successful installation of a 30 MW production line to the South-Korean solar cell manufacturing company KPE. The new production line is intended to increase the production capacity of KPE over 5 times in order to meet the steadily increasing global solar energy demand. Total annual capacity of the new production line equals the yearly power consumption of 10,000 European households. KPE is a subsidiary of Kyungdong, based in Changwon, South Korea.

State-of-the-art solar cell manufacturing (LINEx)
With the LINEx production line KPE obtains a fully automated turnkey solution for solar cell production starting with raw waver material and ending with sorted cells. OTB Solar’s LINEx production lines are characterised by the unique integrated production concept patented by OTB Solar. OTB Solar is still the only company able to provide a fully inline, instead of batch / semi batch, solution for solar cell production. According to this proprietary revolutionary production concept large investments in expensive cleanrooms can be avoided. All production processes take place fully automated in one integrated dustfree unit measuring 7 by 55 meters. LINEx production lines make use of the latest and most sophisticated technology resulting in the highest process yields in the industry and minimal production costs since all production processes are fully automated.

Chris Boomaars, CEO of OTB Solar is delighted about the deal: “Our LINEx production facility is the most advanced inline solar cell manufacturing equipment available. The new LINEx equipment enables KPE to produce solar cells at the lowest cost per MW with an improved product consistency and quality. With the significantly expanded production capacity KPE should be able to boost profitability and to capture a larger part of the promising Korean energy market in solar cells.”

Guus Hiddink, the former coach of the Korean Soccer Union, has opened the new facility during an official ceremony at the 11th of May 2006.

Hiddink will participate as national coach of Australia in the FIFA Worldcup Football to be held from 9 June to 9 July 2006 in Germany.
