Intertraffic Amsterdam, the world’s leading trade event for infrastructure, ITS traffic management, safety and parking has concluded a very well received 22nd edition. Close to 800 exhibitors from 43 countries presented their products and services to a worldwide audience of traffic professionals. The Smart Mobility Center programme was more comprehensive than ever with over 100 free-to-attend activities. IntertrafficLive was introduced, a unique live stream programme straight from the exhibition floor to serve those who couldn’t make it to Amsterdam. Named overall winner of the seventh Intertraffic Innovation Award was HR Groep Traffic & Signing for its MB Track & Trace solution. Intertraffic Amsterdam is organized by Amsterdam RAI and took place from 25 to 28 March.

Ultimate challenge for 2016

Joyce de Winter, Product Manager Intertraffic of Amsterdam RAI is clearly proud that Intertraffic Amsterdam 2014 is widely considered a huge success. “I am delighted with all the positive feedback from many exhibitors that have actually labeled this edition the best one so far. This gives us as organisers a nice challenge for 2016. Excellent service and innovation is our constant aim. Our Smart Mobility theme hall has gained a firm position on the Intertraffic map as a top notch quality platform where public and private parties present their solutions. A diversity of government projects launched mobility solutions hence creating national awareness. There was also a lot of international interest for mobility solutions shown at the Smart Mobility Center en e-mobility square, in particular for the action programme Connecting Mobility, the Beter Benutten projects, the practical test Amsterdam and the new travel information services. For 2016 we plan to involve more international parties in the Smart Mobility Center to create a global overview of proven case studies worldwide.”

Significant growth in international attendance

The attendance figures illustrate the ever growing importance of Intertraffic Amsterdam internationally. Over four days a grand total of 26,819 professionals from no less than 128 countries paid a visit to the show. The international share of attendees keeps growing as well. This time a significant 71% came from outside the Netherlands. There is an increase noticeable of visitors with a senior management position and hence a decision making capacity. Vinny Alvino, Product Manager Traffic Safety at Laser Technology, Inc. (USA) comments “Intertraffic Amsterdam allows us to showcase our products, both established and new, to a worldwide customer base that we simply cannot find at any other international show.” The business opportunities offered by Intertraffic speak volumes as over 30% of exhibitors have already reclaimed their locations for the 2016 edition. A full visitor profile report will be published in May.

From an exhibitor’s point of view

Many exhibitors wanted to share their views on Intertraffic. James Wilson, Sales & Marketing Director of Quazar International Ltd (UK) was delighted. “Intertraffic 2014 was for us the best yet. A steady flow of visitors across all four days – many familiar faces of course, but also a great number of new contacts made from new markets for us. A resounding success!” Emmanuel Lelarge, Head of Business Unit of Sterela (France) added ”We have been exhibiting at Intertraffic for 20 years and we still meet the same high quantity and quality of contacts. Great show!” According to Petra Leja, Sales Manager of BD Bulloneria Dadi S.r.l. (Italy), Intertraffic Amsterdam is a great occasion to meet people operating in the same sector all over the world. “You meet all your clients in a few days and have the opportunity to make a lot of new contacts. We highly recommend this show and look forward to the next edition.”

Intertraffic Innovation Award

Walking away with not only the Intertraffic Innovation Award in the Smart Mobility category, HR Groep Traffic & Signing was additionally named as the ‘overall winner’ for its MB Track & Trace solution – a ready-to-deploy bicycle parking/facility management solution that has the potential to enhance the urban fabric but was also regarded by the jury to be a vital enabler in promoting a more sustainable form of transportation. “Innovations that embrace cycling in our cities and could have subsequent positive impacts on health, congestion mitigation, reduced traffic pollution and more should be lauded,” commented jury chairman Dr Peter van der Knaap, managing director of SWOV – the Dutch National Road Safety Research Institute. The jury particularly commended the simplicity of the user interface, the intelligent technologies adopted from other areas of the parking and traffic management industries, as well as the aesthetically designed bicycle racks themselves. A trial is currently underway in Rotterdam. Other category winners were ScanaCAR’s Parking Space Classifier (category Parking), CIDRO’s Crossafe road culvert and protection system (category Safety), Trafic Technologie Systeme with its Temporary Solar Traffic Light (category ITS Traffic Management) and ArcelorMittal with Magnelis coating and high strength low alloy steel for safety barriers and poles (category Infrastructure). A Special Jury Award was announced for TNO for its role in the development of an external airbag to mitigate injury to cyclists.

IntertrafficLive and indoor navigation app

For the first time Intertraffic had a television studio on the show floor to stage three hybrid programmes to give viewers in different geographic regions a flavour of Intertraffic Amsterdam. Via live stream the audience was able to see various aspects of the show as well as engage in chat sessions and pose questions to speakers. One of the broadcasts was specifically aimed at the Chinese market and therefore entirely executed in Chinese. The programmes will shortly be available for replay on the Intertraffic website. To make life easy for onsite attendees a new indoor navigation app was introduced with QR based technology to not only lead visitors from one stand to the next but also provide in depth exhibitor information in the palm of a hand.
