Shunting
Shunting involves the movement of locomotives and wagons. This is carried out at shunting yards, stations and rail yards. The shunting process includes:
• the sorting of wagons
• the run around of a locomotive
• storage siding (A track which is used for short or longer periods to park trains. A storage siding usually doesn’t involve loading and unloading of cargo);
• the relocation of wagons
• composing a train
• adding of carriages or wagons
