Railway or Permanent way

The definition of a railway is given in the Railway Act of 1995: "a way for traffic on steel rails or guided rails." This definition doesn’t make a difference in the function of a railway. A railway can consist of one or more tracks. The criterion for belonging to a Main line is whether it is mainly used for public passenger transport or freight transport for the execution of international, national or regional services.
